The American horror series “The Vampire Diaries” based on a series of novels of the same name by L.J. Smith. The Vampire Diaries centers on the life of Elena Gilbert, who along with her brother Jeremy, are trying to cope up with the deaths of their parents. When Stefan Salvatore returns back to his familial home at Mystic Falls, Virginia, Elena finds her self drawn towards the peculiar boy and falls in love with him, not knowing that he is an ages old vampire. Along with Stefan is his brother Damon, while Stefan tends to live a non-violent, peaceful life, his brother goes on a killing spree, feeding no the town people. The show became CW’s best performing show, being truly a teenage show.
This show is truly a horror, thriller, merging past with future and its not one you would deliberately want to miss. Fans are excited to learn that Melinda Clarke will be joining the cast of The Vampire Diaries as Kelly Donovan. Kelly is Matt’s alcoholic mother who has long been absent from his life as well as sobriety.

Melinda Clarke is perhaps best known for her role as Julie Cooper, the mother of Micha Barton’s Marissa Cooper on the O.C.. She made fans of the O.C. swoon with manipulative character. Playing another unfit mother shouldn’t be much of a stretch for her talent. Her character on The Vampire Diaries was initially slated for only a few episodes but because fans loved her so much, she became a regular. Melinda Clarke has to her credit the role of Lady Heather on CSI and as the character Melinda on Entourage.

The trouble making, hard drinking, Kelly Donovan will make her entrance to Mystic Falls in March 2010. Will Kelly last more than a few episodes? The Vampire Diaries airs on the CW network Thursdays at 8pm/7pm.
